Meals for Families in Africa and Haiti

Members of the BACTES San Diego Service Center team joined 1,300 others at the Wal-Mart in Poway to help package 200,000 meals for families in Tanzania, Africa on behalf of Friends & Family Community Connection. Meals prepared at earlier food packaging events went to Haiti to support recovery efforts after Tropical Storm Isaac.

Friends & Family Community Connection Founder Phil Harris was in Haiti to assess the damage from Isaac and watched as food was handed out to an area that was devastated.
Here’s an excerpt from a report of his experience: “A conservative estimate of 600 to 1,000 children and adults packed this church inside and out to receive 5 bags or 30 meals of our food. I was delayed to the distribution due to a meeting with a Congressman and the Assistant to the Prime Minister. These people waited for over 3 hours for 5 bags of food. I met them at the door as they were leaving with their bags of food and tears in their eyes saying over and over again merci, merci! One grandma who was 108 years old, no teeth and so tiny and frail, grabbed my hands and began kissing them over and over and over again. Your work this weekend is inspiring! “

Toys For Tots (US Marine Corps)

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program

is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

Several BACTES Regions were right there gathering toys for the Annual Toys for Tots drive including BACTES Texas, BACTES SE; BACTES East, BACTES Arizona and the San Diego Service Center. Many BACTES employees provided several toys which provided a “whole lotta love” for the kids.

We are committed to good corporate citizenship which includes:

• Appropriate use of natural resources
• Seeking opportunities to contribute to improving our environment
• Encouraging the replenishment of renewable resources

One of BACTES’ sustainability partners is The Eden Projects.  This organization reduces extreme poverty and restores healthy forests in Haiti, Madagascar, Ethiopia, and Nepal by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees. BACTES plants five trees for every one we use. We do this based on how much paper we print.

In 2016, BACTES planted over 12,000 trees. See the Eden Project’s Year end video.
